DEPARTMENT OF ISLAMIC DEVELOPMENT MALAYSIA (JAKIM)REGARDING THE RECOGNITION OF “MUSLIM CHOICE” BY MUSLIM FRIENDLY WATCH (MFW)2 November 2025 / 11 Jamadilawal 1447H

DEPARTMENT OF ISLAMIC DEVELOPMENT MALAYSIA (JAKIM)
REGARDING THE RECOGNITION OF “MUSLIM CHOICE” BY MUSLIM FRIENDLY WATCH (MFW)
2 November 2025 / 11 Jamadilawal 1447H
1. The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has received information regarding a non-governmental organization known as Muslim Friendly Watch (MFW), which has introduced the “Muslim Choice” recognition to business operators who meet the conditions and standards set by the organization. This initiative aims to provide confidence to consumers that the products or premises recognized are of high quality, clean, and safe in line with Islamic principles.
2. JAKIM held a meeting with MFW on 23 August 2024 and informed that the “Muslim Choice” recognition conducted by the organization could cause confusion among the public. The public may mistakenly perceive it as a form of halal certification. JAKIM therefore requested that the activity be stopped. However, despite complaints received from various state religious authorities, MFW has continued with its activities.
3. In this regard, JAKIM wishes to emphasize that the use of terms such as “Muslim Choice” or similar terms introduced by any party, including Muslim Friendly Watch (MFW), is not an official halal certification or marking recognized by any competent authority. Only officially recognized halal marks or certifications can determine the halal status of a product or premise.
4. Under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011, only JAKIM and State Islamic Religious Departments (MAIN/ JAIN) are authorized to issue the Malaysian Halal Certification (SPHM) and to grant permission to use the Halal Malaysia logo to qualified parties.
5. Therefore, any use of logos, symbols, statements, or expressions that imply halal status and could mislead the public into believing they are officially recognized by JAKIM or MAIN/JAIN is not permitted. Such actions could undermine the integrity of the national halal certification system and confuse consumers.
6. Hence, all parties are advised not to use or display any logo, symbol, term, statement, or expression that could imply halal certification without official confirmation from JAKIM or MAIN/JAIN.
